UCU celebrates 10th Anniversary with Grand celebrations!
Starting this July, Uganda Christian University will begin to celebrate 10 years since its launching in 1997.
Uganda Christian University has grown exponentially in the last ten years. It now enrolls over 5,000 students in 50 majors at the main campus and more than 1,000 others at Bishop Barham University College and other study centers.
UCU is serving the wider East African region, with students from Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and beyond. It was the first affiliate university from Africa to join the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and operates a “Uganda Studies Program” for 30 American students each semester. It is also the first government Chartered private university in Uganda.
In line with the University motto, “Alpha and Omega: God the First and the Last,” UCU has sought to bring lively Christian faith into its life, with a dynamic chaplaincy, missions and religious conferences, core courses in Bible, worldview and ethics, and a program to help faculty to integrate faith and teaching.
A trip is being planned in late September 2007 to take part in celebrations including the laying of a new cornerstone by honored guests retired Archbishop of Canterbury and his wife, Lord George Leonard Carey and Mrs. Eileen Carey; participation in graduation ceremonies at UCU Mukono campus and Bishop Barham College in Kabale; the opening of the new Archbishops Gate at the entrance to the campus; and many other festivities and events on campus. Many additional honored guests are coming from around the globe.
Uganda Partners is raising funds to refurbish the older buildings, construct the new gate and walkway, and honor Steve and Peggy Noll with funds to complete several needed projects. Please see the 10th Anniversary special brochure located under “downloads”. We are recruiting 20 partners to make a one-time donation of $10,000 who will become members of the newly founded “Cornerstone Council”.
