UCU Forms Partnership with Diocese of Pittsburgh
On November 5, the Diocesan Convention passed a resolution to "embrace a special partnership for mission and ministry to the Uganda Christian University."
Dear Friends,
I lived and served in Pittsburgh for 21 years and continue as a priest of
that diocese. It is therefore with great satisfaction that I announce a
partnership between Uganda Christian University and the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
On November 5, the Diocesan Convention passed a resolution to:
...embrace a special partnership for mission and ministry to the
Uganda Christian University, including sponsoring students, capital projects and
other initiatives that support Uganda Christian University's particular gifts to
bear on behalf of the Anglican Province of Uganda and the nation of
Uganda.
Archbishop Henry Orombi was keynote speaker at the Convention and addressed a
dinner of 400, with 80 specially invited friends of UCU present. He said:
Dear friends, I hope you realize that by forming a
partnership with Uganda Christian University you are tying in directly with the
heartbeat of the Anglican Church in Uganda. Our beloved College is dear to all
of us, from bishops down to laity. We have invested our future in this
University and have entrusted our children to study there. I believe UCU is also
a sign of the future from the Global South community. By supporting this
University, you will be supporting tomorrow's leaders in Africa.
I hardly need note that this partnership is being formed at a critical moment
in the life of the Anglican Communion. I am proud of my tie with the Diocese of
Pittsburgh and with the Anglican Church of Uganda. I hope that in a small way,
Uganda Christian University can help Uganda to be as famous for God as
Pittsburgh is for steel – or the Steelers!
Warm wishes for Christmas and the New Year,
Stephen Noll, Vice Chancellor
