New Principal at Bishop Barham College

The Rev. Dr. George Tibeesigwa has been appointed the new Principal of Bishop Barham College.

The Rev. Dr. George Tibeesigwa, Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda, has been appointed the new Principal of Bishop Barham College of Uganda Christian University. Dr. Tibeesigwa has served as the chief administrative officer of the Church of Uganda since 1998.

Dr. Tibeesigwa is returning to his academic roots, having graduated from Bishop Tucker College, Mukono in 1976 and served on its staff from 1985-1998. "I was present at the birth of the University in 1997 and am now thrilled to be advancing its work in Kabale," he said. Dr. Tibeesigwa was born in Mbarara and served as Diocesan Secretary in West Ankole Diocese from 1978-1980.

Dr. Tibeesigwa is a global scholar, having two Master's degrees from Canada and a doctorate from South Korea. In his role as Provincial Secretary, he has travelled widely and attended the Lambeth Conference in 1998. He is married with five children.

Bishop Barham University College was admitted as the first Constituent College of Uganda Christian University in 2000. The College is one of the oldest theological colleges in Uganda, founded in 1924. It is also noted as the home of the East African Revival and cherishes the evangelical fervor of that movement.

"I am truly thrilled to have a man of George Tibeesigwa's caliber joining the University at a time when it expects to be chartered and take its place among the great universities of Uganda," said the Rev. Prof. Stephen Noll, University Vice Chancellor. "I believe Bishop Barham College is poised to move forward strongly as a beacon of faith and knowledge in the Western region."

Prof. Noll announced at the same time that the College had been given a bus through the Archbishop of Canterbury's Anglican Communion Fund. "The bus will greatly facilitate the ease and safety of students going up and down the hill from Kabale town to the College," he added.
