Report from St. Michael's and All Angels

The Dallas congregation reports on its recent fact-finding mission to Uganda.

A group of six parishioners left St. Michael and All Angels Church in Dallas, Texas on June 10th for a fact-finding mission trip to Uganda. The group visited several organizations that offer potential opportunities for a mission outreach relationship. The organizations visited include:

  • The Children of Uganda (an organization which funds two orphan homes in Uganda, has a U.S. Scholarship program and touring dance company)
  • Mengo Hospital and Dental Clinic
  • The AIDS Support Organization (a project of Mulago Hospital)
  • Sanyu Babies Home
  • Uganda Christian University

Pictured at right is the group at Uganda Christian University's beautiful 86-acre hillside campus located just outside of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. It is also located in close proximity to Kiwanga orphan home supported by Children of Uganda. We are hoping to form partnerships between these organizations that will be mutually beneficial. Uganda Christian University has over 5000 students and 100 full and part-time faculty. They offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees ranging from Business, Law, Information Technology, Mass Communications, Divinity and Theology, Education, Social Sciences and Health Sciences.

A certain highlight of our time on campus was a visit to the Children's Library. Mrs. Reshoketjoe Lilford is in charge of the Children's Library, and has contributed a great deal to its establishment. She is the wife Dr. Grant Lilford, a faculty member. She helped collect 40 boxes of children's books at the Church of the Holy Family in Chapel Hill, their home church before they moved to Uganda. This library could also provide a wonderful field trip for the orphan children at Kiwanga to come and have story time!
